California: slavery abolished by Mexico in 1829. Ban reaffirmed by Compromise of 1850.

Nebraska: slavery banned in 1820 by the Missouri Compromise. Missouri Compromise overturned by the Kansas-Nebraska Act in 1854 allowing for territorial legislature to vote on issue. Slavery abolished in 1861 by territorial legislature.

Oklahoma: slavery introduced by Indians in 1830. OK slavery abolished in 1866 by treaties between the Indians and the US Federal Government.

New Mexico: slavery abolished by Mexico in 1829. Following the Mexican American War in 1848, the legality of slavery was left to the territorial legislature to decide upon applying for statehood. NM slavery was abolished in 1865 by the 13th Amendment of the US Constitution.

Arizona (part of NM until 1862): slavery abolished by Mexico in 1829. Following the Mexican American War in 1848, the legality of slavery was left to the territorial legislature to decide upon applying for statehood. AZ slavery abolished by the Arizona Organic Act of US Congress in 1862.
